About Me!

Hi everyone! Im Eric! I’ve always been into the arts ever since I can remember. I would doodle all the time in school and get in trouble for it often. I always knew I would be an artist. It was the only thing I could confidently see a future in. I mainly studied Illustration throughout high school with the addition of taking a few ceramics classes as well. My plan was to eventually become an illustrator, but after being thrown into real illustration classes in college it dawned on me that it wasn’t for me. I realized this after procrastinating on illustration homework while willingly doing ceramics projects a second time over for fun. One day it clicked that I was meant to be a potter and that was it! I Have been making pots for about 6 years now. I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2019 with a Bachelors in Fine arts for Ceramics. I moved up to Rutland, Vermont immediately after, now residing in Bridgewater. I am currently the Pottery Manager at Shackleton Thomas Furniture and Pottery in Bridgewater, Vermont.

Philosophy

My goal is to make pots that are not only functional but also beautiful. I want to be able to share parts of myself through my pottery as a way to connect to whoever uses my pieces. I use a lot of found material, specifically wild clays from Pennsylvania and now Vermont. Being able to add these to my pots is a way to bring the user on the journey that I took to get these materials. For instance the wild clay from Pennsylvania was dug at the same spot my father and I would always go fishing at. He would fish and I would play in the mud. It's the happiness I get from making these pots that I wish to share.
